Why I am doing PBS? Well that’s easy to explain. The answer, for the most part, is in the opportunity description outlined in Rory’s book – https://marketingisfreedom.com. The opportunity description reads: work from home, time and financial freedom, and arrange for a one-on-one instructor. And seek an opportunity to learn from one of the best Marketing Gurus in the online PBS business. Below, I give you my view of each of these statements. Each was a crucial element in deciding to move forward. And an ongoing evaluation of each will occur periodically to see if it makes sense to continue.
I realize that the three goals cited above may sound a bit lofty. But that’s ok. Most plans and mission statements are. What’s important, however, is whether I can see a path to success.
Work from Home
Work from home. This gem is something where I see real value. Think of all the bad things you avoid with a work-from-home arrangement. Auto repair and maintenance can be your most considerable expense, even if it’s your business, not to mention the increased probability of a car accident. Also in play is higher mileage, which lowers the car’s resale value. In addition, I get to decide what time of the day I spend my 8 to 12-hour contribution. So if you are sick or have a scheduled appointment with your tax agent, then you decide. Overall, it’s incredible knowing there is no commitment to leave your home to occupy an office in another faraway building. Tools like Zoom and Face-Time were invented to aid the working-from-home concept.
Financial Freedom
Financial freedom was another big seller for me. Compensation is a function of your contribution. There is no predefined limit. Thus, you’re not an hourly worker or a salaried employee. There are no fixed compensation limits. It is, by all measurements, a partnership arrangement. I should receive equivalent compensation if my work increases the company’s value.
The other thing worth noting, this is your business. That means you are responsible for its success or failure. So there is a built-in motivation to succeed because you know the success or failure of the business is yours alone. No boss is going to lay you off if things are slow. Or terminate your employment if you don’t meet some artificial objective. You define success or failure, and so does your compensation. Also, multiple income streams are possible (this sounds intriguing). Each income stream has its unique profile concerning time and amount. Also, this is my business, and if successful, I will have something to leave my family.
One-On-One Instructor
One-on-one instructor. Wow! Who does that? A one-on-one would be most valuable when you first start. You are new to all of the functions required. Having someone to guide you is an excellent concept. There is always that dumb question that you never want to ask in a large gathering. Having an instructor allows you to ask dumb questions in private. I like the concept of a personal one-on-one instructor. They are much like a mentor. They can suggest assignments that will contribute to your growth. And they will help you meet your goals and overall mission. The one-on-one instructor will be more inclined to explain and answer your questions. They have a stake in your success. No instructor wants the reputation that people assigned to them fail at a very high rate. I think the opposite is their goal.
Wait, there’s more
I’m sure you heard the term “the joy is in the writing”. It can be a form of art. After you’ve written a piece you feel good about, you can sit back and enjoy the moment. However, writing can be a pain – meeting deadlines and commitments you made. But, in this arrangement there are no deadlines (except for those that are self imposed). So, since I committed to nothing, there’s only joy! Other things I enjoy as a PBSer are listed below.
PBS Activities
- Self expression: The freedom and joy to express yourself is rewarding. And if your words can inspire or encourage someone to improve their lives, it’s even better. Writing provides an opportunity to express emotion, ideas and imagination in meaningful and constructive ways.
- Creativity: Writing allows you to explore and to take others along for the ride. Creating a poem, a story or a technical memorandum all require thinking through the subject matter to construct and deliver a piece that overwhelms the reader. Creativity is not free.
- Writing therapy: Writing is an outlet for experiences, emotions and thought. Getting these things off your chest feels like achievement. That in itself can be therapeutic.
- Connection with others: Writing is a collection of thoughts constructed to reach a targeted reader. And if successful, it can form a connection with others and leading to more exchange.
- Exploration and learning: Writing often requires research, investigation and learning. You dig deeper to better understand the issue. It can be a journey of self-discovery, as well as an opportunity to educate and inspire others.
- Sense of accomplishment: Once and awhile what you write generates positive feedback. You realize your words have impacted others. And if that feedback is positive it feels like you have accomplished something special.
- Personal growth: I don’t think writing gets easier, but it certainly gets better if you do it often. Organizing your thought and communicating those thoughts effectively is a skill that can improve.
Rory’s Book
Rory Ricord is a Marketing Guru with decades of experience in the Online Marketing business. In addition, he created the Performance Blogging System (PBS). You can see his book that explains it all at https://marketingisfreedom.com/. A read of this book describes Why. Pages 63 of the book sums it up for me. Some of the compelling statements are:
- We are meant to work and progress together. Strength in numbers. We are meant to be leaders.
- We are not here to climb on the backs of others. We are here to grow and help each other to ascend to greatness.
- As we progress in growth as a Society, we should create a way to increase the quality of life for all.
These are noble words and describe a vision where there is enough for all, and everyone can participate. Yet, it doesn’t matter if Rory is sincere on not. Of course, I believe he is. What matters most, however, is what I think. Of course, it was his vision to share. But it’s mine to accept. So, I’m responsible for its success. Thus, I plan to make it happen! I certainly am not looking for a handout. But I can see a vision and a reasonable possibility to achieve it.
I’m sold!
